When to consult a speech-language pathologist?

  • Pediatrician has concerns about the child's ability to express himself and/or understand language 

  • Family/friends OR strangers have difficulty understanding your child's speech

  • Your child avoids speaking or does not speak to meet their needs (e.g. requesting items/actions)

  • Tongue thrust during swallow or speech

  • Mouth breather, drools, or messy eater

  • Difficulty moving tongue, jaw, lips on command

  • Raspy or hoarse voice

  • Stuttering
